Keene State College

The Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire supports the United Campus Ministry at Keene State College, in partnership with St James Episcopal Church, and other denominations and congregations.

Keene State College Campus Ministry: Building the Beloved Community, One Friend at a Time

When our ministry began over forty years ago in 1963, the challenge of balancing faith and action was central. Keene State College has grown dramatically since then, and the needs of a diverse population in search of wholeness and spirituality have continued to impact our vision.

We seek to serve the whole College community, with opportunities for worship, reflection, spiritual formation, and support for the difficult times. We try to provide this service through weekly gatherings, special events, prayer times, study and retreats. The practical side to our ministry is always close at hand. We try to participate in and support the work of a variety of community service organizations, like the Community Kitchen.

Campus Ministry House - 51 Blake Street

The Campus Ministry owns and utilizes a house at 51 Blake Street, which is just adjacent to the college, as our base of operations. We have space for worship and programs, and room for students to gather, relax and study.  In 2009-2010, a community of undergraduate students and a young adult intern will live in the house and share its hospitality with the whole college.

The campus ministry gives thanks for the years of faithful service provided by Paul Cullity as campus minister, who is retiring from this position at the end of June, 2009.  New staff leadership will be in place for the upcoming 2009-2010 academic year.

St. James Episcopal Church

A number of students from Keene State are active in St. James parish, singing in the choir and getting involved in other aspects of the life of the congregation.  St James was the home congregation of Jonathan Daniels, an Episcopal seminarian killed during his involvement in the civil rights movement in Alabama in 1965.  St. James continues to honor this legacy of anti-racism and social justice.

Sunday Eucharist at 8am and 10am.
